The Cozad Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge, Number 2250 has selected Lexington’s Julia Briones and Colton Thompson of Eustis/Farnam as the recipients of the Elks Teens of the Month. 
The pair of students have maintained superior academic portfolios at Lexington and Eustis/Farnam throughout their high school campaigns. 
Julia is the daughter of Armando and Berta Briones. Briones maintains a 4.74 GPA at Lexington High School and currently has the top GPA, ranked #1 of 219 in the LHS Senior class. 
Julia Briones has been a very busy student with vast participation in student organizations and extracurricular activities to go along with her efforts in the classroom while at Lexington High School. 
Julia has showcased great leadership for Lexington schools by being a member of the SPEAC organization. SPEAC allows students to work with administrators towards policy changes and many other things. Briones has been a member of this esteemed organization for the past two years. 
Along with the SPEAC organization, Julia has displayed great leadership by being a member of NNER since she was a freshman. Briones has been a member of the Student Council in Lexington since her sophomore year along with being inducted into the Lexington High School National Honor Society as a sophomore as well. 
Stepping outside of the classroom, Julia has let her voice be heard by being in the spotlight as a member of the Lexington High School Speech Team. She has been a member of the team since her freshman year. 
Julia has been a member of the highly acclaimed Lexington Band Program for all of her prep years. She is involved in concert, marching and pep band. 
In the athletic spectrum, Briones has been a member of the Maids soccer team for the past three years and looks forward to this upcoming season. 
“The most important quality successful people have is resilience. It is not a matter of if but when life will throw you down and what matters is if you are able to stand back up again in a strategic manner, without pushing people down to do so. This is Julia, wonderful and kind, yet ready to take on the world,” expressed Lexington Chemistry teacher Crystal Klein. 
Colton Thompson is the son of Tucker and Melissa Thompson. Thompson maintains a 99.2 GPA at Eustis/Farnam High School and currently has the top GPA, ranked #1 in the Eustis/Farnam Senior class. 
Along with keeping a stellar academic portfolio that has resulted in being on the High Honor Roll and earning the Class High GPA in numerous classes, Colton is a very active student in activities and organizations while at Eustis/ Farnam. 
He has been a four-year standout in the Eustis/Farnam Science Fair along with being involved in the Inter-High Day the past three years. Finishing with podium finishes in many subject areas. 
Thompson has been a three-year member of the student council and was inducted into the National Honor Society as a Sophomore. He is currently the president of both the student council and the National Honor Society. 
The past two years, Colton has found success as a member of the Quiz Bowl team as well as the One-Act Cast at Eustis/Farnam. 
Speaking up and earning accolades has become motivation for Thompson to continue his successes as a member of the Speech team. He has lettered the past three years and his a two-time state meet qualifier. 
Thompson has earned great success that has included state championships as well as medal winning finishes at nationals as a valuable member of the Eustis/Farnam FFA program.
Colton has been a three year honoree in the 6:00 a.m. Club, which in turn has assisted greatly in his successes on the gridiron as a four year letterman for the Knights football squad. Colton has earned All-District honors along with Honorable Mention All-State accolades. 
“Colton is an excellent student and I have no doubts that he will have much success in the future,” stated Eustis/Farnam Guidance Counselor Melissa Shepherd.
