Virginia Lorene (Cloyd) Holt, age 95, passed away Thursday morning, September 21st, 2017 at the Waterford at Williamsburg in Lincoln, Nebraska. She was born to Albert Percy Cloyd and Rose Clara (Zimmermann) Cloyd on October 24th, 1921 at Hebron, Nebraska. The family resided at Chester, Nebraska.
She graduated from the Cozad High School with the Class of 1938. Virginia graduated from the Lincoln General School of Nursing at Lincoln, Nebraska in 1942 as a Registered Nurse.
On March 6th, 1943 Virginia Cloyd married Loyd Holt at Gothenburg, Nebraska.
Loyd and Virginia resided in California and Texas where Loyd was serving in the U. S. Army. They later resided in several communities in Nebraska and Virginia was employed at local hospitals. They moved to Cozad, Nebraska in 1934 and to their farm in the Williamsburg Community southwest of Elm Creek, Nebraska in 1959.
Loyd preceded Virginia in death on February 3rd,1984. In June 1984, Virginia moved to Kearney, Nebraska. She moved to the Northridge Retirement Community northwest of Kearney in August of 2005. Virginia moved to the Waterford at Williamsburg in Lincoln, Nebraska on December 15th, 2013 where she had since resided.
Virginia was a member of the Williamsburg United Methodist Church near Elm Creek and attended the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney, after moving there. She worked as a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney until 2002. Virginia was a member of the Hospital Auxiliary for ten years after moving to Kearney. She was a member of the Lincoln General School of Nursing Round Robin since she graduated in 1942.
In addition to her husband, Virginia was preceded in death by her father, her mother and her two sisters Ola Seitz in and Jean Westfall.
She is survived by three daughters, Toni Torrey and her husband Keith of Lincoln, Nebraska, Teri Edeal and her husband Brian of Johnson Lake, Nebraska and Bet Vogt and her husband Merlyn, D.D.S. of Lincoln, Nebraska, nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren.
Visitation was at the O’Brien-Straatmann-Redinger Funeral Home in Kearney, Nebraska Sunday evening September 24th, 2017.
Private burial was at the Kearney Cemetery prior to the funeral service.
Celebration of Life was held Monday, September 25th, 2017 at the O’Brien-Straatmann-Redinger Funeral Chapel in Kearney with Pastor John Shields of the Parkview Baptist Church in Lexington, Nebraska officiating.
Virginia’s wish was that memorials will be directed to Jim and Teri Wilson of the InFaith American Mission, 1507 - 9th Ave., Kearney, NE 68845.
