Renewing rivalries and bringing back traditions is the goal at Gothenburg Public Schools as they host Homecoming 2017 with the football game opponent being the Cozad Haymakers at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Throughout the week, the Gothenburg students have shown great participation in the ‘Dress-Up’ days that coincide with Homecoming.
On Monday, it was confuse the Haymakers day. Students dressed like teachers and teachers dressed like students.
Getting a chance to be a class ‘act’ gave participants the chance to dress like their favorite movie or TV character.
Uniting together as classes, the students participated in Color Day on Wednesday. Seniors wore black; Juniors wore white; Sophomores wore red; Freshmen wore blue; Junior High wore green and the Staff wear yellow.
On Thursday, the students will dress like farmers. This is an effort for the students to all ‘combine’ and show the Haymakers what we’re made of.
On Friday, the students will show their Swede Pride with their apparel selections.
Students will decorate for the parade starting at 1:30 p.m.
The homecoming parade will start at 2 p.m. There will be a Pep Rally following the parade at the Football Stadium.
Following the game, the GHS Homecoming royalty will be selected as the king and queen will be crowned on the field. Competing for the honors and accolades to reign over the festivities are three boys and girls who were selected as Royalty nominees.
Queen finalists are:
ARLEIGH COSTELLO: daughter of Steve and Becky Costello.
NATALIE KENNICUTT: daughter of Jamey and Claudine Kennicutt.
NATALEAGH SITORIUS: daughter of Jeremy and Tricia Sitorius.
King finalists are:
Noah larson: son of Todd Larson and Angie Howard.
BLAKE RILEY: son of Brian and Jaimi Riley.

The Homecoming dance will follow the game from 9:30-12:30 a.m. in the Elementary Gym.
