Alan Leroy Holt, 84 years of age, of rural Overton, Nebraska, passed on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at CHI Health - St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lincoln, Nebraska. Al was born on July 28, 1933 at Cozad, Nebraska, the sixth of eight children born Alfred and Pearl (Jensen) Holt. He received his primary education from a country school in Dawson County, and then graduated from Cozad High School with the class of 1951.
Following his education, Al served his country in the United States Air Force, stationed in Alaska until his honorable discharge at Omaha, Nebraska. In March of 1956, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jean Lawson, and to this union four children were born: Larry, Joni, Laura, and John. The family made their home on farms in the Williamsburg area in northern Phelps County, where Al engaged in farming, and raised livestock. The farm was his passion, and hobby. His work ethic was admired by all who knew him, and was proud to have passed this trait on to his children. Al was a humble man who never wanted the spotlight, and always attempted to be a man of actions, not words.
When the children were young, he enjoyed the involvement with 4-H, attended many horseshows, and always took the time to climb out of the tractor when it came to the kids’ activities.
He was an avid baseball fan. Al also loved to play a good game of cards with his friends, and most recently even taught the grandchildren several card games. The time spent with his grandchildren were the highlight of his life, and he always looked forward to their activities and sporting events.
Al was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Loyd Holt and his wife, Virginia, and Lee Holt; and three sisters: Loree Larsen and her husband, Harold, Goldie Stapp, and Judy Arnold and her husband, Jerry; and sister-in-law, Judy Holt.
He leaves to celebrate his life; his four children: Larry Holt of Hastings, Nebraska; Joni Strahm and her husband, Jay of Broomfield, Colorado; Laura Clevenger and her husband, Allen of Crook, Colorado; and John Holt and his wife, Jackie of rural Loomis, Nebraska; thirteen grandchildren: Shelby and Nicholas Holt; Jessica, Jordan, and Jacob Strahm; Brady Clevenger, Justin Clevenger and his wife, Ailene, and Troy Clevenger; and Joshua, J.C., Joe, Jory, and Autumn Holt; one brother, Paul Holt of Holdrege, Nebraska; one sister, Lois Holen and her husband, Don of Bertrand; brother-in-law, Roy Stapp of Omaha; sister-in-law, Doris Holt of Kearney, Nebraska; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
