Louis Albert Gengenbach, 94, of Lincoln (formerly of Bertrand, NE) passed away at the Cove House in Lincoln on Saturday, June 16th, 2018. 
Memorial services will be held on Sunday, June 24th, 2018, 2 pm, at Butherus-Maser & Love Funeral Home in Lincoln with military honors and a reception following the service.  Inurnment will take place later in Bertrand, NE.   
Louis was born January 13th, 1924 at Eustis, NE to Albert and Laura (Timm) Gengenbach.  He attended school at Holmes School District 70 in Dawson County and graduated with the class of 1941 from Eustis High School where he lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball.  He was proud to be the first boy selected from Eustis to attend Boys State in Lincoln in 1940.  He was baptized, confirmed and later married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis.  
On October 10th, 1945 Louis married Ellen Dannehl his wife for 72 years.  In March of 1946 he was drafted into the U.S. Army and stationed at Fort Eustis, Virginia.  When their daughter Marilynn was born, Louis was honorably discharged and they farmed for a brief time in Eustis, NE.  Following their move to Smithfield a son Dennis and daughter Debra were born.  Louis and Ellen farmed raising cattle and hogs with a move to Bertrand in 1976 when Dennis and family joined the operation.  In 1988 they started spending their winters in Arizona in addition to a move to their retirement home at The Landing in Lincoln in 2001. They enjoyed traveling throughout the states as well as to Germany, Finland, and Russia.  Louis & Ellen were avid Husker fans and have been season ticket holders since 1967.  When their health failed they moved to the Cove in 2015.  
Louis is survived by his wife Ellen of Lincoln, daughters Marilynn and Dave Andreasen of Lincoln, Debra and Richard Henderson of Lincoln, son Dennis and Janice Gengenbach of Smithfield, Ne.  Grandchildren from Lincoln include Teresa (Tim) Blair; Sherri (Steve) Rexroth; Carrie (Chris) Erks; Amy (Jon) Starr; Amber (Bryan) Kinnan; and Autumn (Josh) Lehn as well as Nate (Nikki) Gengenbach of Hastings and Darcy Schlothauer of Gering.   Great Grandchildren from Lincoln include Derrick Rexroth and fiancée Megan May; Ashley Rexroth; Preston, Dylan & Olivia Erks; Ryker and Gannon Starr; Riley and Cooper Kinnan; Remington, Stella, Tatumn and Scarlett Lehn; Micah and Hannah Gengenbach of Hastings; and Macy, Max and Clare Schlothauer of Gering.   He is also survived by sister-in-laws Shirley Gengenbach of Eustis and Des Dannehl of Lincoln.
In addition to his parents Albert and Laura Gengenbach and in-laws Lula and Louie Dannehl, he is preceded in death by brothers Russell and Kenneth Gengenbach; brother-in-laws Delmar and Kermit Dannehl and sister-in-law Ruth Dannehl.  
Memorials are suggested to the family to be divided between the Bertrand Senior Center and an Ag Scholarship to be established at Bertrand High School.
