Evelyn Joan Breeden, 89, of Cozad, Nebraska, died December 20th, 2017 at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg, Nebraska.  
  She was born October 25th, 1928 in Lexington, NE, daughter of Clarence and Ethel (Evans) Reiter.  She attended school in Lexington graduating from Lexington High School in 1946.
  Evelyn married James Breeden on November 27th, 1949 at Lexington; to this union two children were born- Kathryn and Bill. She worked for Evans Dress Shop in Lexington and Five & Dime in Cozad, Nebraska. Evelyn enjoyed reading in her spare time.
  Surviving are daughter, Kathryn and husband Ernest Nelsen of North Platte, NE; sister-in-law Bonnie and husband Steve Pfister of Lexington, Nebraska. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
  Evelyn was preceded in death by husband, James Cecil Breeden, parents Clarence P. Reiter and Ethel Reiter, son, Bill Breeden, brother Lee Reiter, sisters Mary Lou Taylor and Charlotte Selk and their spouses.
  Graveside services were held at Cozad Cemetery, at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 26th, 2017 with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.

  Joe Earnest Haynes of Cozad, Nebraska passed away on Wednesday, Novermber 22nd, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital at Kearney, Nebraska.
  He was born August 11th, 1944 to Milan And Margart (Moore) Haynes in Salt Lake City, Utah.
  Joe grew up in Gothenburg, Nebrska and graduated with the class of 1963. He later made his home in Cozad and was employed with Monroe Auto Equipment until his retirement.
  Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger years and loved  his country home and all his special pets.  Joe had a kind heart and was always there to help where needed. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends.
  He is survived by his dauther Jennifer of Kearney, Nebraska, three dearly loved grandchildren-Michaela, Draven and Trenton. Also his sisters Peggy Knoedler of North Platte, Nebraska; Kay Swan of Cozad, Nebraska and Margy (James) Seeber of Omaha; two neices, Janell Svoboda of Lincoln, Nebraska and Melissa Leaming of Longmount, Colorado. Four nephews; Troy Knoedler of North Platte, Nebraska, Jeff and Brian Seeber of Omaha, Nebraska and Michael Swan of Lincoln, Nebraska.
  Joe was preceeded in death by his parents, and brothers-in-law Keith Knoedler and Doug Swan.

   Norma Jean Sabin, 76, of Gothenburg, Nebraska, died December 17th, 2017 at Gothenburg Health surrounded by her loved ones.  
  She was born September 4th, 1941 in Genoa, Nebraska, daughter of Dale and Marjory McQueen.  
  Jean married Raymond "Tony" Sabin on February 16th, 1962.  She spent 55 years building a family of kids, grandkids and great grandkids with Tony, but kept her door open and an open seat at her table for friends to come by and visit. She enjoyed playing card games, dice games and board games with the family and especially loved the Christmas Eve traditions at her house every year.  She also enjoyed leisure time with Tony and spending time with her close personal friend Rhonda. She was always present for birthdays, holidays and special events for her kids and grandkids; her great granddaughter Kali and nieces and nephews.   
  Jean was survived by her husband Tony, her four children -  Rex Sabin of North Platte, Julie (Ivan) Oberg of North Platte, Lorrie (Shawn) Scarrow of Brady, and Katie (Thomas) Holley of Gothenburg.  
Her grandchildren -  Michelle (Sally), Tyler, Shaunna (Richie) Kaleigh, Trevor, Brad (Laura), Heather (Troy), Jolene (Jared) and Janele (Jeremy); her niece Connie (Howard) and close friend Rhonda. She also had many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family and friends. 
  Jean was preceded in death her parents Dale & Marjory McQueen and her three sisters - Margie, Linda and Joan.
  Visitation will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Gothenburg, Nebraska; Thursday, December 21st, 2017, 1:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. with the family  present from 5:00 to 7:00. p.m. 
  Funeral services will be held at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel, Friday, December 22nd, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Larry Viter officiating.  
  Interment will follow in the Gothenburg Cemetery, Gothenburg, Nebraska.

  Marion J. Schutte, 85, of Grand Island, passed away Tuesday, December 12th at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
  Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, December 16th, 2017 at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with The Reverend Martin Egging officiating. Burial was in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation was Friday, December 15th, 2017  at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with a Parish Vigil Rosary followed.

  Marion was born February 7th, 1932 at Lawrence, Nebraska to Alois and Helen (Hlavac) Schutte. He graduated from the Lawrence High School in 1950. He attended Hastings College and played football. In 1952 he entered the United States Air Force, serving from July of 1952 to July of 1956.
  On June 6th, 1953 he married Regina Schlick at Deweese, Nebraska. He returned to Hastings College in 1956 and received his Bachelors of Arts degree. In 1958 he began his teaching and coaching career at Ravenna High School where he taught sciences and coached football and track. In 1964 he received his Masters in Guidance and Counseling from Kearney State College, then moved to Cozad in 1965 and became the guidance counselor at Cozad Senior High. In 1976, the family moved to Grand Island where he became the Director of Guidance and Counseling at Grand Island Senior High until retirement in 1990. He earned his specialist degree in school psychology and taught summer school at Kearney State College for 17 years.
  Marion was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus for over 50 years. He served in many different officer roles in both Cozad and Grand Island. He was also a member of the American Legion, Lions Club, Elks Club, Jaycees and the Cozad and Ravenna Volunteer Fire Departments. He was the State President of Guidance and Counseling Association and P.D.K. Marion loved officiating both football and basketball.  He began officiating while attending Hastings College in 1956 and retired in 1985.
  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. As a resident of the VA Home, he really enjoyed the wood shop and provided projects like plaques to graduating students and wishing wells to family and friends and many other hand-crafted items. 
  Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Regina “Jeanne”; his 8 children and their spouses, Mike and Carmen of Kansas City; Cindy and Rick Jandrain of Upper Arlington, Ohio, Terry and Janell of Lincoln, Ann and Dan Purdy of Boelus, Brian and Debra of East Lansing, Michigan, Robert and Wanda of Grand Island, Fran and Tom Westfall of Lincoln and Michelle Buss and Mark McKenzie of Irvine, California.
  Other survivors include his brothers and their wives, Donald and Karen of Kearney, Howard and Dee of Hastings, and Raymond of Hastings; sisters and their husbands, Ellen and Richard Kissler of Aurora, Marilyn and Gene of Lawrence, Karolyn Kitten of Hastings and Sharon and Ron Willmes of Roseland; 16 grandchildren, Nathan, Amber, Richard, Jessica, Elizabeth, Ben, Jessica, Jake, Jeff, Patrick, Rachel, Charles, Kaitlyn, Tessa, TJ and Abby; and 23 great grandchildren; 3 sisters-in-law, Marie, Mary and Willa; and numerous nieces and nephews.
  He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Francis, Edward, Alois and Paul.
  Thelma Jeanne Brooks of Cozad passed away December 10th, 2017 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney at the age of 71.  
  Jeanne was born February 26th, 1946 at Grand Island, Nebraska to Austin and Thelva (Elliott) Bates.  Jeanne's family moved to a ranch near Halsey, Nebraska where they would have picnics by the river and grow a beautiful garden. Following high school, Jeanne attended Cosmetology School in Lincoln, Nebraska. 
  In November of 1968, she married Larry Brooks at Cozad, Nebraska.  The couple moved several times while Larry was in the military, before settling back in Cozad to raise their son, Michael.  Jeanne loved to cook, tend to her flower gardens and take care of her family. 
  She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Austin Bates and sisters, Kathy Ristine and Ruth Hunter.    
  Survivors include her husband, Larry of Cozad; son, Michael Brooks of Cozad; sisters, Kay Etherton of Cozad, Lois and husband Jim Hughes of Ohio, Cheryl Nespor of Milford and Joan and husband Gary Waugh of Gordon; her dog, Ozzie; and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

  A memorial service will be held Friday, December 15th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jill Boyd officiating. Cremation was chosen.  Those wishing to sign the memorial book may do so on Thursday from 12 to 5pm at Berryman Funeral Home.
